A Wet Halloween, A Warm Bowl of Ramen
This Halloween in Ithaca was something else. It was cold, windy, and it just (almost) did not stop raining. We had a plan to go downtown, but after looking outside, we decided to just stick to our neighborhood.
Orion was Ghostface and I threw on a cyberpunk outfit. We didn't bother with new costumes this year, which honestly was the right call given the weather. Anything new would have been ruined anyway.
Orion met up with his friends and they just took off, totally ignoring the rain. Kids on a candy mission don't care about getting wet.
I walked with them for a while, but I got too cold. So, I just went and got the car. I spent the next hour or so just creeping along the curb behind them, following their route through the neighborhood.
A really nice thing, which they did last year too, was the local fire department out with their truck. The firefighters were on the street handing out candy to all the kids. It's very nice of them to do this.
In the end, Orion's bag was completely full. He was soaked and cold by the time he was done, but he had his haul. Now we have a giant pile of chocolate in the house that I can't eat (dairy and gluten) and he'll never be able to finish. I'll probably start giving it away in a week or two once he forgets exactly what's in there. :)
Here are some photos of his loot:
We were both pretty cold and wet, so we just grabbed Japanese takeout to end the night. A hot bowl of ramen and some hibachi steak. It was a good way to warm up.
PS: Here’s a bonus side by side photos from last year’s vs this year’s Halloween. Time flies! Orion’s certainly growing.
