Chainsaws, Snacks, and an Empty Theater
One of the upsides of being off social media is that I get to share our little adventures here on the blog instead. It feels a bit more permanent, which I like. So here’s the first of many: a good old-fashioned father-son movie night.
Yesterday, Orion and I went to see Chainsaw Man the Movie: Reze Arc. I’m happy I have a kid who is as into anime as I am. We went to an 8:15 PM showing of Chainsaw Man the Movie: Reze Arc yesterday.
We grabbed a ton of snacks (Orion's a bottomless pit for popcorn, and I'm not much better) and headed in. They were also giving out this cool swag. We both got these poster sets that break apart into a bunch of character cards. A pretty nice freebie.
So, what about the movie itself?
We both loved it. The animation from MAPPA is just ridiculous. The action sequences, when they finally hit, are absolutely top-notch.
This movie covers the "Reze Arc," and it's a weird one, in a good way. My main criticism is that the film is short, only about 100 minutes, and the real explosive action doesn't kick in until almost an hour in. So you definitely need some patience.
But the first hour? It's weirdly... cozy. It's like a lofi chill, slice-of-life anime. You almost forget you're watching Chainsaw Man. Then, of course, Denji is still Denji. He's a complete idiot and still chasing girls, which is always pretty funny.
I really liked Reze as a character, and I'm more intrigued by Makima than ever. My only other complaint is that we didn't get nearly enough Power. We always need more Power.
All in all, it was a really fun arc. My tip: don't watch the trailer if you haven't seen it. Just go in blind.
Now we're just stuck waiting for what's next. No continuation has been announced yet, so it feels just like the long waits between Demon Slayer movies. But it was a great night out.
I'll be posting more of these little updates. If there's anything you're curious about or want to see more of, drop a comment.
Best duo! :)
